Reducing CPU Cycles at Localytics: Part 2


Localytics is a closed-loop app analytics and marketing platform which runs on Vertica. Their Vertica team lead, Konstantine Krutiy, published an excellent post on how “every CPU cycle matters” in November 2015. In the second piece of this series, Konstantine discusses improvements from BIOS changes as well as keeping Vertica in an optimal technology stack.

HyperThreading is the feature which makes one physical core appear as two cores to the operating system. This feature is beneficial for virtualized environments, but in Vertica workloads we saw a negative impact.
