License Audit Calculation Change in 7.1.2

0

As of version 7.1.2, the license audit calculation has changed to no longer include a 1-byte cost for delimiters. Vertica continues to audit based on raw data size, but will no longer calculate cost of delimiters.

To demonstrate the change, the VMart sample database was loaded in 7.1.1 and 7.1.2. First, the projection storage was calculated, then an audit performed on the database

7.1.1

dbadmin=> SELECT SUM(used_bytes) FROM v_monitor.projection_storage;
    SUM
-----------
 297038873
(1 row)

dbadmin=> SELECT AUDIT('');
   AUDIT
-----------
 806317936
(1 row)

7.1.2

dbadmin=> SELECT SUM(used_bytes) FROM v_monitor.projection_storage;
    SUM
-----------
 297038873
(1 row)

dbadmin=> SELECT AUDIT('');
   AUDIT
-----------
 628994397
(1 row)

The audit estimate resulted in 768.9 MB and 599.9 MB respectively. This 25% savings on license utilization could be quite significant in a licensed environment running 7.1.2.
