Set Time Based Collection Policy


This quick tip shows how to set a time based collection policy for data collector tables.

The method to configure the data retention policy has been using the SET_DATA_COLLECTOR_POLICY() function. The retention policies on these data collectors are based on memory and disk space. As of Vertica 7.0, the retention can be defined based on time.

If the time based policy is set using SET_DATA_COLLECTOR_POLICY(), Vertica will use the setting that is exceeded first (size or time). Before setting a time based policy, it’s a good idea to check disk size capacity.

To set just a strict time based policy, use the SET_DATA_COLLECTOR_TIME_POLICY() function:

To disable the time based policy, use a negative input such as -1 for the interval:
