SQL-on-Hadoop Analytics


MapReduce and Vertica came together to create a SQL-on-Hadoop Analytics solution. This solution will allow reduction of costs and complexity by allowing Hadoop and Vertica to be run on a single cluster; essentially running Vertica on top of MapR.

The SQL-on-Hadoop Analytics solution will provide a comprehensive approach allowing Vertica to be run directly on the MapR platform without the need of connectors. The underlying MapR platform enables Vertica to load, manage, and query the data while maintaining the concurrent reads and writes of the MapR data platform. This results in faster performance with both platforms while providing the lowest total cost of ownership.

MapReduce announced early access to the solution at Strata 2014 conference in February. Below is a video of Vertica’s Chris Selland giving a brief (50 seconds) explanation of the solution:

Vertica is offering a virtual machine of a MapR Sandbox through Vertica Marketplace. This instance provides an environment of Vertica integrated with MapR.
